Arkansas Computer Science Educators Conference

The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) Office of Computer Science, in partnership with the Arkansas Chapter of the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA Arkansas), is pleased to announce the 2018 Arkansas Computer Science Educators Conference!

Luncheon Keynote Speaker: Katie Hendrickson, PhD - Director of State Government Affairs

Katie works on state policy and advocacy issues for, including state implementation of computer science education initiatives. She earned a doctorate in mathematics education in 2016 from Ohio University, and is a former secondary mathematics teacher.

Book Signing: If I Were A Wizard  Author Paul Hamilton

Paul Hamilton is Head of Learning Technologies in the Primary School at Matthew Flinders Anglican College on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. He is the Author of the best selling coding picture book 'If I Were a Wizard' and has been featured in 'The Age, 'Sydney Morning Herald' , 'Canberra Times' as a leading pioneer in the edtech field. Paul is an Apple Distinguished Educator, a finalist in the International EdTech Digest Awards Recognition Program, that honours leaders in the education and technology sector.  Paul is an international Keynote Speaker having presented across Australia, the United States and other countries including South Africa.

Conference Schedule

  • Birds of a Feather Sessions (60 minutes) - Unstructured group discussion about a common computer science theme, concept, or issue;
  • Individual/Small Group Presentations (Both 60 and 90 Minutes);
  • Panel Discussions (90 minutes) - Panel discussion proposals should reflect a diverse group of perspectives;
  • Workshop/Interactive Presentations (90 minutes, 3 hours, 6 hours, and 9 hours).

  • Sunday - Session Title: Raspberry Pi for High School
  • Monday - Session Title: Create With a Purpose Using the Arduino
Conference Registration Deadline with TShirt: May 25, 2018
  • T-Shirts are included in your registration if registration is completed by May 25, 2018
  • Late Registration will be accepted until the conference but you will not receive a tshirt
  • Last day to register with lunch tickets will be June 8, 2018
  • All PO must be paid by June 8th, 2018

Intended Audience

The 2018 Arkansas Computer Science Educators Conference is open to any educator, industry representative, or community leader that is interested in learning more about computer science education, especially as implemented in Arkansas.

Housing - The conference has not arranged a block of rooms; this information is only provided to assist you in locating housing if needed.





  • Vendors/exhibitors will be set up in the main hallway, which will provide high visibility and foot traffic of conference attendees.
  • Each exhibition space will be approximately 8 feet wide and 5 feet deep with a small table provided (if requested); measurements are provided as an estimate only. 
  • We are seeking exhibitors for Monday, July 2, 2018; exhibitor set up may begin during the pre-conference on Sunday.
  • Vendors/Exhibitors may submit a registration at: Exhibitor/vendor registration will be closed on May 31, 2018.
  • If we have more vendors/exhibitors register than space allows, the CSTA Arkansas and the ADE Office of Computer Science will select vendors/exhibitors that most closely align with conference attendee needs.
