Public School Accountability

The Division of Public School Accountability provides general support and guidance to districts with respect to state and federal laws, rules, and regulations. The division includes four units:

  • The Charter Schools office provides support to entities that plan to open a charter school and to existing charter schools. There are two basic types of public charter schools. A conversion school is a public school converted to a public charter school, and an open-enrollment school is a public charter school run by a governmental entity, an institution of higher learning or a tax-exempt non-sectarian organization. The charter office assists schools requesting waivers of statute, rule, or Standards for Accreditation.
  • The Federal Programs office provides support when guiding schools in their efforts to apply ‘best-practices’ in fiscal and programmatic matters and it will maintain communication efforts in the program planning stage and implementation stage. The unit engages in consistent collaboration with all local education agencies that are subrecipients of Federal Grant Program funds to supplement and complement the efforts of local school systems, the private sector, public and private nonprofit educational research institutions, community-based organizations, parents and students to improve the quality of education.
  • The School Performance office provides support on state and federal laws and disseminates federal and state statistical information to stakeholders regarding school efforts to provide every student with a student-focused education.
  • The Standards & Systems Support office provides support to districts and schools to ensure that the educational foundation is established and maintained through adherence to the Standards for Accreditation. Specialists in this unit can assist with standards for accreditation, general support to districts, school-level improvement plans, district plans of support, and evidence-based practices.
