State Personnel Development Grant

State Personnel Development Grant

What We Do

The State Personnel Development Grant works with districts and education service cooperatives to support Response to Intervention (RTI) implementation and maximize all students’ literacy and behavioral outcomes, especially students with disabilities. The SPDG directly supports and builds upon the RTI Arkansas initiative, which is a multi-component, general education model designed to support students academically and behaviorally.

Who We Are

The SPDG is a five-year grant awarded from the U.S. Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs. The SPDG partners with
  • The American Institute of Research to provide RTI support and resources
  • Arkansas State University’s Center for Community Engagement (CCE) to provide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports professional development and technical assistance
  • The Parent Training and Information Center to provide parents with an understanding of RTI and their role in supporting their child

Services We Provide

General Technical Assistance

The SPDG staff is available to offer technical assistance via phone and email. This consultation service is free of charge. The SPDG website and the RTI Arkansas website offers RTI information, fidelity of implementation tools, and links to information about positive behavioral interventions and supports

Targeted Technical Assistance

RTI professional development sessions (and occasional webinars) are available on request and include no formal follow-up support.  They are designed to provide basic information about RTI.

Intensive Technical Assistance

An application is released yearly for districts seeking to implement a comprehensive behavior and academic (literacy) RTI framework that supports the school improvement plan. The SPDG works directly with the ADE School Improvement Unit to align all services and supports to the State school improvement requirements.

The SPDG will provide intensive, multi-year professional development in RTI by building capacity and competencies necessary to implement with fidelity.  Leadership teams will receive technical assistance in evidence-based practices for both literacy and behavior at the school and classroom levels resulting in improved outcomes for ALL students, including students with disabilities.
