Special Day Schools

Special Day Schools are day programs licensed through Developmental Disabilities Services (DDS). Some of the licensed DDS day programs provide services to school aged students. Typically, a public school district may refer a student to a DDS day program when the district has determined the student is in need of more exceptional education services than the district can provide. Once a placement has been made, the DDS day program assumes the responsibility to implement the special education services as written in the IEP. However, the referring public school district is ultimately responsible for procedural safeguards and the provision of FAPE.
