The ADE Science Unit is responsible for development of professional development opportunities for new and experienced science educators. These opportunities are available through the Educational Service Cooperatives and University STEM Centers.
Planning for New Science Standards
K-12 Introduction to Three-Dimensional Learning
Description: During this two-day session, participants will engage in hands-on experiences designed to enhance understanding of the Science and Engineering Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Core Ideas that will make up the new Arkansas K-12 Science Standards.
Note: This workshop is designed for K-12 teachers who have not previously attended a Planning for New Science Standards PD opportunity.
Transitioning to New Arkansas Science Standards
Targeted Support for Elementary Teachers
Description: Participants will use strategies learned throughout this three-day session to support a student-centered, elementary classroom in which the three dimensions of the new Arkansas Science Standards are integrated with Common Core Literacy - a definite “win-win.”
Putting Practices in Place: Grades 5-12
Description: The new Arkansas Science Standards will require students to apply Science and Engineering Practices. This two-day session will engage participants in these practices using strategies designed to support deeper understanding of science concepts.
Note: It is recommended, but not required, that participants attending the Transitioning to New Arkansas Science Standards PD opportunities have some knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards (e.g., attended Planning for New Science Standards PD).
