Arkansas Learning Standards for School Libraries: A New Beginning

Presenter: Cassandra Barnett (Program Advisor for School Libraries) OR designated trainers

Audience: K-12 School Librarians
PD hours: 6 hours 
Description: This workshop will introduce the participants to the new Arkansas Learning Standards for School Libraries.  The participants will unpack the standards, exploring how the standards can be used to revise their current curriculum and develop sample assessments based on the standards.  Resource documents, grade level benchmarks and implementation strategies will be provided.   Participants are asked to bring their laptop or other device.
Dates: June and July - specific scheduling dates will be available after trainers have been determined.

*If the minimum enrollment of 10 participants is not met, Cooperatives are asked to encourage their school librarians to attend this PD at a Cooperative that has met the minimum.  Any session not meeting the minimum enrollment will be cancelled.
**Little Rock and Pulaski County Special School District school librarians are encouraged to attend at a Cooperative nearby (Arch Ford or Wilbur D. Mills)
 

Object-Based Learning 101

Presenter: Kathleen Pate (Clinton Presidential Center) and designated trainers
Sponsor: Arkansas Department of Education, Clinton Presidential Center
Audience: K-12 School Librarians, 4-12 social studies, art, and English language arts teachers, 
PD hours: 6 hours 
Description: This workshop will introduce the participants to using historic objects, art and other primary sources in the classroom.  A variety of strategies and resources including digital versions of historic objects, art and primary source material will be provided. Participants are asked to bring a lesson or unit that they normally teach.  An opportunity will be given to revise the lesson or unit integrating an artifact chosen from the resources provided.   Participants are asked to bring their laptop or other device.
Dates: June and July - specific scheduling dates will be available after trainers have been determined.

Tinkering as a Teaching Tool

Presenter: Museum of Discovery staff

Audience: K-12 School Librarians, teachers and other educators
PD hours: 6 hours 
Description: This workshop will explore the makerspace concept through hands-on activities and help participants identify the skills that students learn such as inquiry, collaboration and design thinking.  Participants will leave with strategies and resources to help them implement making and tinkering in their classrooms and schools.
