Act 187 Computer Science Course Information

The Computer Science Fact Sheet continues to be updated with 2017-18 school year implementation guidance. 

Kindergarten - 8th grade

High School*

 

*Act 187 of the 2015 Regular Session, requires that public high schools and public charter high schools offer at least one (1) computer science course at the high school level, beginning in the 2015-2016 school year. This course offering is subject to the provisions of A.C.A. § 6-15-213 as amended by Act 853 of 2015, meaning at least one computer science course must be made available to students.

For the 2017-2018 school year and beyond, all Arkansas Public High Schools must make available a sequential combination of a High School Computer Science Level 1 and a High School Computer Science Level 2 course (1 credit total) to meet the requirements of Act 187. The approved courses include both Level 1 and Level 2 of:

  • Computer Science with Programming/Coding Emphasis (465010 & 465020),
  • Mobile Application Development (465310 & 465320), 
  • Computer Science with Networking/Hardware Emphasis (465110 & 465120),
  • Robotics (465510 & 465520), 
  • Computer Science with Information Security Emphasis (465210 & 465220), or
  • College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science Principles (565010 & 565020)
