Arkansas and 25 other lead states partnered with the National Research Council, the National Science Teachers Association, Achieve and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, to develop the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
With much support from educators, the Arkansas State Board of Education (SBE) unanimously voted on June 10, 2015 to adopt the Arkansas K-12 Science Standards for Grades K-4 and 5-8 which were based on the Next Generation Science Standards. New high school courses are being developed using the NGSS high school standards that the SBE will consider for adoption in June of 2016.
