TESS for Administrators: Law & Process Training

 

Administrator Training 

 
2015-2016 Beginning Administrators  
 
New Administrators who are designated as the person responsible for evaluating teachers and who are employees of the school district or open enrollment charter school must successfully complete all training and certification requirements in preparation for this work. Before conducting summative evaluations of teachers and before assigning annual overall ratings, evaluators must complete TESS & LEADS Law and Process training. 
 
In addition, administrators who are Building Principals, Assistant Principals or District-Level Leaders who will be evaluated by LEADS or who will evaluate other administrators are required to attend Law and Process training. Superintendents who evaluate Building-Level Administrators are welcome, but not required to attend if s/he has previously attended LEADS training. This training is three (3) hours covering an overview of current legislation, rules and components for TESS and LEADS.

Beginning Administrators may voluntarily attend two other trainings offered during the first week of August, 2015, Teachscape Support Training and BloomBoard for Administrators. Descriptions of these with registration information are also found in ‘SUMMER 2015 TESS & LEADS Training Calendars’.
 

2015-2016 Current Administrators  

 
All currently employed administrators will complete a one (1) hour online video update for TESS & LEADS. This update for the Law & Process training provides information on the first year of implementation; changes to the system based on new legislative requirements; recommendations based on teacher and administrator feedback; information on summer and fall support trainings; and goals for the 2015-16 school year.

Evaluation Proficiency Assessment Information 
The Framework for Teaching by Charlotte Danielson provides the foundation for the Arkansas Teacher Excellence and Support System (TESS). Teachscape partnered with Charlotte Danielson and Educational Testing Service (ETS) to develop FOCUS for Observers, software that provides district evaluators with comprehensive training and scoring practice, followed by a scientifically designed assessment of ability to accurately and consistently apply the Danielson rubric for teaching performance. All administrators who will conduct summative evaluations of teachers will complete the training and pass a proficiency assessment using the FOCUS system. The Arkansas Department of Education Office of Educator Effectiveness offers training to assist those who must complete this process during the first week of August, 2015.
