The APPEL program formerly known as ADE Non-Traditional Licensure, is an alternative route to teacher licensure administered by the Arkansas Department of Education.
Some colleges and universities offer alternate-route Master’s degree programs for individuals who are interested in becoming teachers. The non-traditional MAT, M.Ed., MTLL route to educator licensure is administered through those Arkansas colleges/universities that have been approved by the Department of Education to offer programs at the MCH 4-8 or Secondary 7-12 level.
Provisional Professional Teaching License, PPTL, is a three-year provisional license issued, to an individual with at least 3 years professional work experience in a subject area, for the purpose of teaching classes for credit on a part-time or full-time basis as teacher-of-record in an Arkansas public school. Teach for America is a nationally established program consisting of recent college graduates and professionals of all academic majors and career interests who agree to commit to a minimum of two consecutive years of classroom teaching in a low-income urban or rural public school. The Arkansas Teacher Corps is a service organization that provides an accelerated path to teaching for college graduates or soon-to-be graduates (by June of the application year) from any academic major or background who commit to teach for three years in a high-need school. The purpose of TTT is to assist eligible military personnel to transition to a new career as public school teachers in targeted schools. A network of State TTT Offices has been established to provide participants with counseling and assistance regarding licensure requirements, routes to state licensure, and employment leads. The American Board, also known as the American Board for the Certification of Teacher Excellence(ABCTE), is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to putting qualified teachers in the classroom through alternative teaching certifications. We offer an online, self-paced teacher certification program to be used to teach in public schools in 12 states across the U.S..
You will prepare for two exams, a subject area exam and a pedagogy exam (also known as the Professional Teaching Knowledge (PTK) exam). Upon passing the two exams, you will earn your American Board certification. This certification will be used as part of the requirements for provisional licensure.
