Educational Leadership

Believing that all students should have equal access to excellent leaders, the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) is committed to its vision of leading the nation in student-focused education by attracting, preparing, developing, and retaining effective leaders. Please visit the following links for resources and information:

Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)

As defined by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), an effective leader is a leader who, through training and at least 3 years of experience, exemplifies the state’s leadership standards as demonstrated by consistently high-performance ratings within a state-approved evaluation and support system that includes multiple measures of student growth. For example, an effecitve leader:

  • communicates and collaborates effectively with community and external partners
  • engages all stakeholders to accomplish the vision
  • supports rigorous curricula
  • maintains culturally responsible environment
  • seeks continual professional growth
  • models ethical professional behavior
  • supports professional growth of educational staff

All Arkansas Educational Leaders

To facilitate professional development, the Leader Excellence and Development System (LEADS) is a statewide support system for all leaders to have flexibility in personalizing their professional learning to meet their individual growth needs. Leaders have the capacity to become self-empowered and more effective through documentation and reflection of professional practices. EdReflect is the online data collection and management system used for LEADS to promote self-advocacy. This electronic platform provides leaders transparency and access to communication tools to broaden their personal learning network. Other self-directed professional growth opportunities are available through competency-based micro-credentials, located in BloomBoard Resources.
